The University of Minnesota Law School has renamed its Institute on Race and Poverty. The institute, founded in 1993, will now be called the Institute on Metropolitan Opportunity. The name was changed to reflect the broadening field of research being undertaken at the institute.
The new institute will continue to conduct research on urban housing and racial segregation in public schools. But new research projects will focus on urban land use, urban transportation systems, regional economic development, state and local taxation, and sustainable development.
