Ken Walden Is the New Chaplain at Claflin University

Ken J. Walden is the new chaplain at Claflin University in Orangeburg, South Carolina. He will also serve as an assistant professor of philosophy and religion. He was the first African American senior pastor at the Lakewood First United Methodist Church in Los Angeles. He is a major in the U.S. Air Force Reserves.

A native of Brooklyn, New York, Walden holds a master of divinity degree from Duke University. He earned a doctor of ministry degree at the Graduate Theological Foundation in South Bend, Indiana, and a Ph.D. in practical theology from the Claremont School of Theology in California.

“I see my role as giving spiritual and intellectual advice to the Claflin University family,” Dr. Walden said. “We desire to create a space where a dynamic religious experience can occur and thrive while developing partners in ministry worldwide.”
