People dressed up in Ku Klux Klan outfits were seen in a residential hall at the University of Utah. A resident adviser said the people in Klan outfits were trying to recruit students for a White supremacist group.
In another incident, human excrement was found smeared on the dormitory room door of a Black student. The student was reassigned to new living quarters.
The incidents happened early in the semester but were not reported to the university’s Racist and Bias Incident Response Team and the investigations were later dropped for lack of evidence.
In a statement, Taylor R. Randall, president of the University of Utah, “We regret that our process for addressing racist and biased incidents on our campus did not work as we would want it to and accept responsibility for this shortcoming. Be certain that we will continue to work as a campus community to make the necessary changes to guarantee our communities of color, and our Black community members in particular, feel safe across campus and especially in their living spaces.”
What else do you expect from a state where old racists such a Brigham Young and Joseph Smith are still revered in the 21st century.
After all is said and done, there’ll be a lot SAID and NOTHING DONE. Incidents as described, leave a black mark on the institution which soft pedals the investigation and corrective action.
It appears to me that Eugene has acquiesced to White America racists act with your timid comment. What do you expect from an decrepit sub-par PE. For those who dissent, I challenge you provide evidence where the work of Eugene has directly changed the lives of native born Black Americans. I rest my case.
