Tougaloo College, the historically Black educational institution in Tougaloo, Mississippi, has purchased WUFX-TV, channel 35 in Jackson. The station is affiliated with MyNetworkTV and is broadcast over the major cable television systems in the region.
Beverly W. Hogan, president of Tougaloo College, stated, “This is a remarkable opportunity for the College to further its academic mission, as well as its economic interests through the purchase and operation of WUFX. Most importantly, a commercial television station will offer our students, particularly those from our mass communication department, some real world experience of seeing how a television station works, aiding them in knowledge acquisition and application.”
Tougaloo College is a great institution of learning. As a 1951 graduate of Tougaloo College,I have found my successes in life stems back to the rich legacy that was afforded me through my association as a student at Tougaloo College. I am very thankful for the sacrifices made by my parents to have me follow in their foot steps and the foot steps of my ancestors who were among the very first slave students who attended Tougaloo College at its inception.
