Robert J. Jones Named President of the University at Albany

Robert J. Jones was chosen as the 19th president of the University at Albany, part of the State University of New York system. For the past eight years, Dr. Jones has been the senior vice president for academic administration for the University of Minnesota system. Previously, he was an administrator for 15 years at the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota. He is an expert in agronomy and plant genetics.

His appointment will take effect in January. Dr. Jones will receive a salary of $385,000, plus a $60,000 housing allowance, use of a university vehicle, and a $110,000 stipend from the university’s Research Foundation.

“The University at Albany is a world-class institution of higher education with an innovative research portfolio that serves our nation’s highest needs and ensures that New York State is at the forefront of today’s technological advances,” said Dr. Jones in accepting his new position.

Dr. Jones is a native of Dawson, Georgia. He is a graduate of Fort Valley State University in Georgia and holds a master’s degree from the University of Georgia and a Ph.D. in crop physiology from the University of Missouri at Columbia.
