University of Arkansas’ Stellar Record in Boosting Black Engineering Enrollments

The College of Engineering at the University of Arkansas has 2,726 students enrolled this fall. This is the highest enrollment in its history and shows a whopping 73 percent increase over the past five years. There are 775 first-year students in the College of Engineering, an increase of 12 percent over last year’s record entering class.

This fall, there is a 30 percent increase in the number of African American first-year students in the College of Engineering. This increase accounts for 70 percent of the increase in the number of African-American first-year students campuswide. Blacks make up 8.3 percent of the entering engineering students this fall.

Over the past five years, the number of African American first-year students in the College of Engineering has increased from 16 to 64, a 300 percent rise.
