The Inaugural Leader of the New Community College System in Connecticut

The Board of Regents for Higher Education in Connecticut has appointed John Maduko to serve as president of Connecticut State Community College, effective June 1. The new system is merging 12 community colleges throughout the state. Together they will enroll more than 32,000 students. The merger is expected to be completed by the summer of 2023.

“I have come to Connecticut because I believe that CT State has a mission that is meaningful and authentic,” Dr. Maduko said. “We are establishing a ‘new normal’ of higher education. The impact of the pandemic over the last two and a half years has been enormous and will have long-lasting effects. But there is an even stronger history here of success in academics and career programs, student affairs and wrap-around student services that we will leverage.”

Since 2019, Dr. Maduko has been serving as vice president of academic and student affairs for Minnesota State Community and Technical College in Fergus Falls, a member of the 37-institution Minnesota State Colleges and University System. Earlier, he held administrative leadership and faculty roles at North Central Texas College District, Rasmussen University, National Paralegal College, Mountain State University, and Hillsborough Community College.

Dr. Maduko received a bachelor’s degree in biology from California State Polytechnic University Pomona. He holds a medical doctorate from St. Matthew’s University School of Medicine in the Cayman Islands.
