New Administratve Duties in Higher Education for 10 Black Americans

Darryl E. Owens has been promoted to associate vice president of communications and engagement at Beacon College in Leesburg, Florida. He formerly served as director of communications at the college. He is the creator, executive producer, and host of

Owens is a graduate of Howard University in Washington, D.C., where he majored in journalism.

Sabrina Minor was appointed vice president for human resource management and development and chief people officer at George Washington University in Washington, D.C. Before joining the staff at the university in 2013, Minor held human resources positions for the government of the District of Columbia.

Minor holds a bachelor’s degree in human resources management and development from Strayer University.

Marcus Foster has been named chief Title IX officer at Tulane University in New Orleans. Foster most recently served as the Title IX coordinator in the Office of Diversity and Equity at the State University of New York at Geneseo.

A native of Reading, Pennsylvania, Foster received his bachelor’s degree in politics from Ursinus College in Collegeville, Pennsylvania. He earned a juris doctorate at Tulane University.

Linda Jackson was appointed vice president of sponsored research and innovation at Virginia Union University in Richmond. She has been serving as director of the university’s National Research Institute.

Dr. Jackson earned a doctoral degree in educational leadership in higher education and school administration from Oral Roberts University in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

Bowie State University in Maryland has appointed Mark Cummings as its new director of public safety and chief of police. Since 2017, Cummings served as chief of police in Capitol Heights, Maryland. Earlier he was a Maryland State Police officer for more than 25 years.

Cummings received a bachelor’s degree in management and a master’s degree in organizational leadership from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore.

Gwendolyn M. Kea was appointed vice president for business and administration at St. Augustine’s University in Raleigh, North Carolina. She was director of finance at the State Employees Association of North Carolina. Earlier, Kea was vice president for fiscal affairs and chief financial officer at Shaw University in Raleigh.

A native of Philadelphia, Kea earned a bachelor’s degree in accounting at Shaw University. She holds an MBA from Strayer University.

Corrinne Tarver was promoted to director of athletics at Fisk University in Nashville, Tennessee. Earlier. She was the assistant gymnastics coach at the University of Pennsylvania, associate director of intercollegiate athletics at Stockton University in New Jersey, and assistant director of athletic compliance at Syracuse University.

Tarver holds a bachelor’s degree in social work from the University of Georgia and a juris doctorate from New York Law School.

Lovelle McMichael was appointed assistant director of community engagement at High Point University in North Carolina. In this role, he will oversee the AmeriCorps VISTA program and the Volunteer Center.

McMichael is a graduate of Millersville University in Pennsylvania, where he majored in business administration. He holds a master’s degree in secondary education from the University of Phoenix and a master of divinity degree from Wake Forest University.

Nicole Whitehead is the new vice president of human resources at Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. She was the chief human resources officer at Joliet Junior College in Illinois.

Dr. Whitehead earned a bachelor’s degree in business and an MBA from Lewis University in Romeoville, Illinois. She went on to earn a doctorate in higher education and organizational change from Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois.

Carol Crabbe was appointed assistant dean of the Scripps Howard School of Journalism and Communications at Hampton University in Virginia. Since 2008, she was been an international strategic public relations consultant for Wilson Global Communications.

A native of Ghana, Crabbe earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Carleton University in Ottawa, Canada, and a master’s degree in media and public affairs from George Washington University in Washington, D.C.
