
Spelman College in Atlanta was ranked as the best HBCU and Howard University in Washington, D.C., was second. This was the same as a year ago. This was the 16th year in a row that Spelman College has topped the U.S. News rankings for HBCUs.
Tuskegee University in Alabama ranked in third place. A year ago, the university was tied for the fourth spot. Morehouse College in Atlanta was ranked fourth. It also was tied for fourth last year. Xavier University of Louisiana in New Orleans was in fifth place, dropping from third place a year ago.
Rounding out the top 10 positions are:

7. Florida A&M University
8. Delaware State University
9. Claflin University
9. North Carolina A&T State University (tie)
Top-ranked HBCU Spelman College was ranked as the 51st best liberal arts college in the country, up three positions from a year ago. Howard University ranked as the 89th best national university, down from number 80 two years ago. That was the highest rank Howard had ever achieved in the U.S. News survey.
