Universities Announce the Appointments of Five Black Administrators

Art Malloy was named vice president for student affairs at the University of North Dakota, effective January 3. Dr. Malloy currently serves as associate vice chancellor for student affairs and dean of students at the University of North Carolina at Pembroke.

Dr. Malloy earned a bachelor’s in film and television from Shaw University in  Raleigh, North Carolina. He holds a master’s degree in African/African-American studies from Ohio State University and a doctorate in higher education management from the University of Georgia.

Sheryl Huggins Salomon was promoted to director of strategic communications for the Silver School of Social Work at New York University. She has been serving as the chief communications officer at the NYU McSilver Institute for Poverty Policy and Research.

Huggins Salomon holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Pennsylvania and a master’s degree from Columbia Journalism School.

Larry J. Pannell was named interim band director at Jarvis Christian University in Hawkins, Texas. He was chair of the music department and director of bands at Grambling State University in Louisiana. He joined Grambling in 1992 as an assistant professor and assistant band director.

Dr. Pannell earned a bachelor’s degree in instrumental music education at Grambling State University. He holds a master’s degree in instrumental music education from Louisiana Tech University and a doctor of musical arts degree from the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago.

Karen Peart will serve as interim vice president for communications at Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. She has been serving as the director of university media relations.

A native of Jamaica and raised in New York, Peart earned a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism and a juris doctorate from the University of Connecticut School of Law.

Ka’Lisa Stanfield will serve as interim athletic director at Alabama A&M University. She was the assistant athletic director at the University of  Arkansas-Monticello.

Stanfield earned a bachelor’s degree in health and physical education with a focus on exercise science from the University of Arkansas-Monticello. She holds a master’s degree in sports management from Southern New Hampshire University.

Ndidi Akuta is the new chief information officer at Fort Valley State University in Georgia. Since 2018, Akuta has served as the information security officer at the university.

Akuta earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science technology from Savannah State University in Georgia. He holds in a master’s degree in information technology and is enrolled in a doctoral program in information technology at Middle Georgia State University.
