A White woman student at the University of Kentucky was arrested after an incident involving a Black student worker in a residence hall in the early morning hours on Sunday, November 6.
Videos of the incident were circulated on social media. They showed the White student appearing to be heavily intoxicated. When approached by the Black student worker offering help, the White woman attacked her while yelling racial slurs. The worker was punched several times, kicked in the stomach, and bit on the arm.
Eli Capilouto, president of the University of Kentucky issued a statement that said: “To be clear: we condemn this behavior and will not tolerate it under any circumstance. The safety and well-being of our community has been — and will continue to be — our top priority. The video images I have seen do not honor our responsibilities to each other. They reflect violence, which is never acceptable, and a denial of the humanity of members of our community. They do not reflect civil discourse. They are deeply antithetical to what we are and what we always want to be as a community.”
The student faces charges of public intoxication, assault, disorderly conduct, and assault on a police officer, who was allegedly bit by the student. Her attorney said that she would redraw from the university and seek treatment.
As a nation, we are so much better than this. What part of “Justice for All” don’t some people understand? Right is right, wrong is wrong. Let’s cut the mustard ladies & gentlemen, a legacy of hate is nothing to be proud of.
