
Dr. Daniel held bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Indiana University. He earned a Ph.D. at the University of California, Los Angeles.
After serving as a lecturer at UCLA, Dr. Daniel began teaching at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1992. He was named an assistant professor of sociology in 1998. He was promoted to associate professor in 200e and to full professor in 2009.

Dr. Daniel authored several books including More Than Black? Multiracial Identity and the New Racial Order (Temple University Press, 2001) and Race and Multiraciality in Brazil and the United States: Converging Paths? (Pennsylvania State University Press, 2006). He was also the co-founding editor and editor-in-chief of the Journal of Critical Mixed Race Studies.
