Two HBCUs in Texas Adding New Residence Halls

Prairie View A&M University recently broke ground on a new 336-bed residential community for upperclassmen and graduate students. The new residence hall will include two and three bedroom suites, all with their own laundry facilities. The plans include a computer lab, a fitness center, and a coffee bar in the new complex. Construction is expected to be completed by the fall of 2013.

At Texas Southern University in Houston a new seven-story student housing complex is on the drawing boards. The new complex will have 215,000 square feet of space and is budgeted to cost $41.5 million. Each room in the complex will house two students who will share a bathroom.

In addition to the residence rooms, the complex will include a dining hall, storage lockers, a convenience store, a roof terrace, and a gaming center. Study areas and laundry facilities will be included on each residential floor. Construction will being in May and is expected to be completed by the fall of 2014.
