Six African Americans Who Are Assuming New Administrative Roles in Higher Education

Patrice Moorer has been appointed assistant vice president of academic affairs at the University of West Florida in Pensacola. Dr. Moorer joined the staff at the university in 2013 as the director for student retention initiatives and was previously the assistant dean of the Hal Marcus College of Science and Engineering.

Dr. Moorer is a U.S. Navy veteran and holds a bachelor’s degree in business from Southern New Hampshire University. She earned a master’s degree in counseling from Mercer University in Macon, Georgia, and an educational doctorate at the University of West Florida.

Anton Goff is the new athletics director at Prairie View A&M University in Texas. He has been serving as senior associate athletics director at Northern Illinois University. Earlier, he was director of athletics at St. John’s University in New York, the University of Hartford in Connecticut, and Bowie State University in Maryland.

A Pittsburgh native and former football student-athlete at Bowling Green University in Ohio, Goff earned both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Virginia Commonwealth University.

Joy Milfort was appointed vice president of campus services and chief financial officer at Howard Community College in Columbia, Maryland. Prior to joining Howard Community College, she served as the assistant vice president for finance and administration for campus life at American University in Washington, D.C.

Milfort is a graduate of American University, where she majored in health promotion and biology. She holds an MBA from Bay Path University in Longmeadow, Massachusetts.

Michael Ray Bradley, Jr. was named director of the band at Jarvis Christian University in Hawkins, Texas. He has been serving as a band director in middle and high schools in Louisiana.

Bradley is a graduate of Grambling State University in Louisiana, where he majored in music and served three years as a drum major of the Tiger Marching Band. He holds a master’s degree in music education from the University of Louisiana Lafayette.

Yolanda Pollard is the new director of Swain Center for Executive Education and Economic Development at the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. She had a 25-year career at Entergy Corporation. Earlier, she led the customized corporate training function for the University of New Orleans.

Dr. Pollard earned a bachelor’s degree in journalism from Louisiana State University and a master’s degree in management from Troy University in Alabama. She also holds a doctoral degree in executive leadership from the University of Holy Cross in New Orleans.

Jeffrey L. Clark has been promoted to chief of the University of Georgia Police Department. Since 2021, he was deputy chief for engagement, training, and standards. Before coming to the University of Georgia, Clark was deputy chief of the police department in Athens, Georgia.

Clark holds a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of Phoenix, and a master’s degree in public safety administration from Columbus State University in Georgia.
