PROPEL Innovation Hub Launches HBCU Cybersecurity Consortium

PROPEL, an innovation hub for historically Black colleges and universities, has recently launched the HBCU Cybersecurity Consortium in partnership with Southern Company, an American gas and electricity utility provider.

The HBCU Cybersecurity Consortium aims to unite academia, industry, and government cybersecurity leaders and provide HBCUs with the most up-to-date cybersecurity curricula. The program will provide educational, professional development, and research opportunities for stakeholders from all corners of the cybersecurity field. Additionally, the consortium will establish a workforce pipeline program for HBCU students pursuing a career in cybersecurity.

Initially, the new consortium will focus on two initiatives designed for faculty and students. Faculty at participating HBCUs will have the opportunity to apply for a fellowship that will provide professional development resources and financial support to gain industry credentials. Additionally, junior and senior students can apply to participate in a year-long immersive experience aimed at preparing them for cybersecurity careers upon graduation.

Currently, 32 HBCUs from across the country have joined the consortium. The professional organization aims to attract more corporate partners as it expands. More information regarding the HBCU Cybersecurity Consortium can be found here.
