Prairie View A&M University Selects Aashir Nasim for Senior Vice President and Provost

Aashir Nasim has been appointed provost and senior vice president for academic affairs at Prairie View A&M University, a historically Black university in Texas.

Dr. Nasim has spent the past 15 years with Virginia Commonwealth University, holding various academic and administrative positions. In addition to his faculty appointment as a full professor of psychology and African American studies, he currently serves as vice president and senior advisor to the president. During his tenure with the university, he has held other leadership posts, including chair of the department of African American studies, senior vice provost for faculty affairs, and vice president for institutional equity, effectiveness, and success.

Prior to joining Virginia Commonwealth University, Dr. Nasim served as an assistant professor of psychology at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Virginia. His first stint in higher education was as a Preparing Future Faculty Fellow with the Association of American Colleges and Universities.

Dr. Nasim is a graduate of Augusta University in Georgia, where he double-majored in psychology and biology. He holds a master’s degree and Ph.D. in child developmental psychology from historically Black Howard University in Washington, D.C.
