Higher Education Gifts or Grants of Interest to African Americans

Here is this week’s news of grants or gifts to historically Black colleges and universities or for programs of particular interest to African Americans in higher education.

Historically Black South Carolina State University has been awarded a $583,920 grant from the Partnership for Education Advancement to enhance technology for enrollment and student success efforts. The new funding will be used to implement new software, hardware, and employee training to help improve student tracking and progress, data analysis efforts, student information systems, cybersecurity, and computer networks.

The College of Engineering and Architecture at historically Black Howard University in Washington, D.C., has received a $5 million donation from Autodesk, an interdisciplinary software company. The gift will be used to implement AI and digital transformation programming and opportunities into the college’s curriculum.

Historically Black North Carolina Central University has received a $9.4 million gift from Cisco Systems to enhance the university’s ongoing campus network upgrade. The funding will be used to create new infrastructure and provide the university with updated equipment, technical services, and cybersecurity tools.

The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation has donated $1 million to historically Black Jackson State University in Mississippi to establish a scholarship endowment fund. The scholarship will support qualified, high achieving students in financial need, with a preference given to students pursuing a STEM degree.
