Jonathan Jefferson Appointed President of Roxbury Community College in Boston

Jonathan K. Jefferson has been appointed as the eighteenth president of Roxbury Community College in Boston, Massachusetts. He will begin his new position on July 1.

Roxbury Community College enrolls about 1,200 students. Black students represent nearly half of the college’s student body.

Dr. Jefferson comes to his new role with more than three decades of professional experience. He has been serving as chief academic officer and provost at Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Earlier in his career, he served as director of the Institute for Leadership at the United States Coast Guard Academy. He also has experience in leadership roles with historically Black universities, having previously served as dean of the School of Business at both Clark Atlanta University and Albany State University in Georgia.

“I am humbled and honored to join Roxbury Community College as its eighteenth president,” said Dr. Jefferson. “I am excited to collaborate with the board of trustees, faculty, staff, students, and the broader community to shape this esteemed institution’s next chapter of success.

Dr. Jefferson is an honors graduate of historically Black Morehouse College in Atlanta, where he majored in mathematics. He holds a master’s degree in operations research and industrial engineering from Cornell University, a master’s degree in organization and management from Capella University, and a doctor of management degree from Colorado Technical University.
