Here is this week’s news of grants to historically Black colleges and universities or for programs of particular interest to African Americans in higher education.
The University of Mississippi Medical Center received a four-year, $3.8 million grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute for a study on how sleep disorders impact cardiovascular health among African Americans.
Historically Black Meharry Medical College in Nashville, Tennessee, received a $100,000 donation from Dr. Henry A. Moses, executive director of the Meharry National Alumni Association and professor emeritus of biochemistry at the medical college. The gift will establish an endowed fund to provide equipment for the Pamela C. Williams M.D. Medical Simulation Center at Meharry. The training center offers state-of-the-art simulations for operating, maternity, and intensive care facilities.
