Assistant/Associate Professor, Exercise Physiology, (tenure-track)

Wayne State University is searching for an experienced Assistant/Associate Professor, Exercise Physiology, (tenure-track) at its Detroit campus location.

Position Purpose:

Wayne State University’s Division of Kinesiology, Health and Sport is searching for a tenure-track faculty member in the field of Exercise Science with a specialization in Exercise Physiology.  The new faculty member would be expected to develop or continue a robust program of research, pursue external funding (including federal funding) to support their research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses in their area of specialization, advise master’s and Ph.D. students, and provide service to the Exercise and Sport Science program, the division, the college, and their disciplinary field. The position is available to promising or established scholars irrespective of their disciplinary specialization within the broad field of exercise physiology. The new faculty member would provide oversight and leadership of the division’s newly renovated, state-of-the-art, and fully equipped exercise physiology research laboratory.

Wayne State University is an R1 institution committed to the production of knowledge and the education of over 29,000 students in the Detroit metropolitan area. The division offers undergraduate, master’s and doctoral degrees in Community Health, Exercise and Sport Science, Health and Physical Education Teaching, and Sport Administration and Management. The position offers excellent mentoring, inter-disciplinary and collaborative research opportunities, and extensive research and instructional support. 

Responsibilities:

  • Publish scholarly work in high-impact, peer-reviewed journals
  • Seek external funding
  • Teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses
  • Advise and mentor graduate students
  • Provide service to the division, college, university, and field of exercise physiology

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Exercise Physiology (or directly related discipline)
  • Evidence of scholarly productivity or potential commensurate with a R1 university
  • Evidence of the potential to secure external funding
  • Evidence of successful teaching experience at the undergraduate and/or graduate level

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Established and nationally recognized program of scholarship preferred, but not required
  • Experience advising and mentoring graduate students
  • Willingness to lead and/or participate in collaborative, interdisciplinary research initiatives
  • Post-doctoral experience is preferred, but not required
