Northeastern University’s College of Social Sciences and Humanities invites nominations and applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor. Academic rank at the Associate or Full Professor level will be commensurate with experience and qualifications reflecting a record of substantial research productivity and an established history of grant support, teaching, and academic service.

Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses and will focus on understanding and analyzing China’s political, economic, and security roles in the global arena and their implications for regional and global stability. This can include expertise in the country’s evolving foreign policy, economic statecraft, investments in the Global South, infrastructure technopolitics such as the Belt and Road Initiative, strategic interests, diasporic/overseas communities, and involvement in international agreements and organizations. The search is open to discipline, but with a preference for Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, and/or History. This appointment could also include a joint appointment in another department or college. We invite scholars from a broad and diverse set of backgrounds, including those who employ qualitative, quantitative, or mixed methods approaches to research.

Qualifications

  • Ph.D. in Political Science, Sociology, Anthropology, History or related fields in hand by employment start date is required.
  • For consideration at the Associate Professor level, applicants must have at least 4 years of relevant experience. For consideration at the Full Professor level, applicants must have at least 6 years of relevant experience.
  • Deep knowledge of China’s political system, economy, and/or security role.
  • Professional competency in (a) Chinese language required.
  • Evidence of interdisciplinary expertise and capacity for collaboration across disciplines.
  • Commitment to enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • A record in teaching, research, scholarship, and service.
  • Commitment to faculty development and mentoring.
  • Commitment to engaged and impactful research and innovation.
  • Commitment to the continued development of Northeastern University’s signature experiential learning model.
