Dean, College of Education and Human Development

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi

Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi (TAMU-CC) invites applications and nominations for the Dean of the College of Education and Human Development (CEHD).

TAMU-CC is a vibrant, relatively young doctoral-granting university and Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI), distinguished by its heritage of teaching excellence and innovation in research and community engagement. Located on a beautiful coastal island campus, TAMU-CC is committed to student success and diversity, fostering strong regional and global connections.

The CEHD is dedicated to preparing transformative leaders equipped with twenty-first century knowledge and skills to serve diverse communities. With a commitment to excellence and innovation, the College provides undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral degree programs across four dynamic departments: Curriculum, Instruction, and Learning Sciences; Counseling and Educational Psychology; Educational Leadership; and Kinesiology. The College is home to impactful centers, including the Early Childhood Development Center and the Antonio E. Garcia Arts and Education Center, that enhance student learning and community engagement.

The CEHD enrolls over 1,300 students and is supported by 150 dedicated faculty and staff, including 44 tenured or tenure-track faculty. The College is accredited for its programs and has secured nearly $800,000 in research and grant funding in FY24, reflecting its commitment to advancing knowledge and fostering student success.

Reporting directly to the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs, the Dean serves as the chief academic and administrative officer for the CEHD. This individual will provide visionary leadership to support the College’s mission while fostering a collective vision that enhances coordination, collaboration, and alignment with TAMU-CC’s strategic plan – Islander Impact 2030. The next Dean will also work to position the CEHD as a leader in education and human development through innovative strategies and partnerships that address the current and future needs of the field.

A key focus for the Dean will be advancing student outcomes for a diverse and dynamic student body. With nearly 50% Hispanic enrollment and a significant proportion of first-generation students, the University reflects the regional community it serves. The Dean will ensure that all students benefit from an exceptional educational experience through innovative curriculum, applied learning opportunities, and comprehensive support systems. By addressing barriers and leveraging resources, the Dean will champion efforts to improve enrollment, retention rates, graduation outcomes, and post-graduation success.

In addition, the Dean will play a central role in fostering faculty success and promoting a culture of shared governance. The College’s diverse faculty includes tenured, tenure-track, and professional-track members who play vital roles in teaching, research, and service. The Dean must cultivate an environment that values collaboration, supports scholarly excellence, and empowers faculty development across disciplines. As TAMU-CC continues its evolution as a Doctoral-High Research Activity (R2) institution, the Dean will help position the CEHD to expand its research profile and scholarly impact.

The successful candidate will hold a terminal degree in an appropriate field and possess academic credentials commensurate with the rank of full professor. This individual must have a record of significant administrative experience in higher education, a collaborative leadership style, and demonstrated success in advancing academic programs, student outcomes, and faculty excellence.

Joining Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi as the Dean of the CEHD is more than a career opportunity – it is a chance to shape the future of education, inspire the next generation of leaders, and leave a lasting legacy on the region and beyond.
