Elizabeth City State University Offers a New Pathway for Graduate Education in Aviation

Elizabeth City State University in North Carolina has formed a new partnership with Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, Florida, that will provide students the opportunity to earn a bachelor’s degree in aviation science from the HBCU and a master’s degree in aviation from Embry-Riddle in just five years.

The accelerated 4+1 master’s program will allow ECSU aviation students to take graduate-level courses during their senior year, with credits counting toward both their undergraduate and graduate degrees. Upon graduation from the HBCU, students can complete their master of science degree through Embry-Riddle in one year.

Additionally, the two partnering institutions have agreed to collaborate on faculty research in aviation safety, unmanned systems, aeronautics, and workforce development. Embry-Riddle will also assist ECSU with aircraft acquisition to expand the HBCU’s fleet and training capacity.

“This partnership with Embry-Riddle creates a direct pathway for our graduates to earn an advanced degree from one of the most prestigious aviation universities in the country,” said ECSU Chancellor S. Keith Hargrove. “It exemplifies our commitment to providing transformative opportunities for our students, expanding their academic and career horizons while strengthening ECSU’s leadership in aviation education.”
