Clark Atlanta University Launches New Program to Advance HBCU Leadership

The HBCU Executive Leadership Institute (HBCU ELI) at Clark Atlanta University in Georgia has launched the “Willa B. Player Executive Leaders Program,” an initiative designed to prepare executives for successful leadership at historically Black colleges and universities.

Named in honor of former Bennett College president, Willa B. Player, the new program features a curriculum that includes advanced modules in governance, financial stewardship, stakeholder relations, and institutional innovation. Participants will engage in group coaching by seasoned executive mentors, on-the-ground residencies, virtual seminars, and wellness training.

“This initiative is timely and essential,” said Dr. Phyllis Worthy Dawkins, executive director of HBCU ELI and former president of Bennett College. “Building the capacity of the next generation of executive leaders ensures that our institutions remain anchored in purpose, gain strength from their legacies, and continue to expand their societal impact.”
