Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) in Exercise Physiology

Position: The University of North Carolina Charlotte invites applications and nominations for an Assistant Professor (Tenure-Track) in Exercise Physiology in the Department of Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences. This is a nine-month position with summer teaching opportunities and start date of August 10, 2026.

Description of Work: The Assistant Professor in Exercise Physiology will teach courses within the undergraduate Exercise Science and/or graduate Kinesiology programs. Candidates may also have the opportunity to teach in related APHCS programs, depending on expertise. This faculty member will contribute to, and expand upon, research interests within the Department and provide service to unit, College, University, and/or professional initiatives.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Candidates will conduct and publish original research and seek funding to support their independent research agenda. Candidates will provide excellent instruction across the BS in Exercise Science and/or MS in Kinesiology curricula. Candidates may also have the opportunity to teach in other APHCS program areas based on expertise. Candidates are expected to mentor undergraduate and/or graduate students through varied opportunities (Honors projects, thesis/dissertation research, community engagement, workforce development) and serve on unit, College, University, and/or professional initiatives.

Required Qualifications & Competencies: UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline. ABD candidates will be considered if they provide evidence of degree completion by August 10, 2026.

Ideal Candidates: A doctoral degree in Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Rehabilitation Sciences, or related discipline. A focused agenda for independent research in exercise physiology or a related discipline, with an excellent potential to obtain extramural research support. The ideal candidate’s research focus will contribute to and/or expand upon the current research interests of the department. Experience in teaching at the university level involvement with ACSM or related professional associations is ideal.

Highlights of the Position: The Department of Applied Physiology, Health, and Clinical Sciences partners with collegiate and professional sport organizations as well as an expansive health care sector throughout the Charlotte region. The institution serves 32,000 students and the Department has exceptional on- and off-campus collaborators including the School of Data Sciences.
