Founded in 1794, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary is a graduate theological school of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Pittsburgh Theological Seminary prepares women and men for ministries in established and emerging Christian communities around the world. POSITION SUMMARY
Pittsburgh Theological Seminary invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor to begin in July 2026. The ideal candidate will specialize in one or more of the following areas: missional leadership, congregational studies, world Christianity, and/or Christian formation. The candidate selected for this position will be a scholar of demonstrable potential; who is dedicated to the church’s life and work; exhibits a theological hospitality in their teaching and research; and who seeks to join other faculty and staff as members of a larger team dedicated to a shared mission. This is a two-year, non-tenure track position, which includes generous salary and benefits and on campus housing.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Teaching four courses per year, including core interdisciplinary and elective courses in the master’s curriculum.
- Relevant research and scholarly activities.
- Advising and mentoring students.
- Offering meaningful service to the institution, the church, and the broader community, and participating in the worship life on the PTS campus.
QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
The successful candidate will have interdisciplinary interests and skills, demonstrated pedagogical excellence, and the desire to work collegially in an intercultural environment. A demonstrated competency in online teaching and learning is also desirable..
EDUCATION/TRAINING/EXPERIENCE
Required
- A scholarly doctorate (Ph.D. or Th.D.) in world Christianity, missiology, or a related field
- Master’s degree in a theological discipline (e.g. M.Div., MTS, etc.)
Preferred
- Pastoral experience
- Ordination from a recognized religious denomination
- ABD (“All but Dissertation”) will be considered
