Austin Jamar Banks Named Dean of Students at Hendrix College in Arkansas

Austin Jamar “JB” Banks has been promoted to assistant vice president and dean of students at Hendrix College in Conway, Arkansas. He has been serving in the role on an interim basis since January.

Banks has more than 25 years of higher education experience, including roles in student affairs, campus life, student conduct, wellness, crisis response, and student success. Before joining Hendrix, he served in a variety of senior leadership roles at the University of Colorado Boulder, historically Black Winston-Salem State University in North Carolina, and Appalachian State University in Boone, North Carolina.

“Hendrix is a place where relationships matter, and students deserve to be seen, recognized, and heard,” said Banks. “Hendrix is a place like no other, and I am deeply honored to be a part of such an amazing community.”

Banks is a graduate of the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, where he received his bachelor’s degree in speech communication and criminal justice. He later earned his master’s degree in educational leadership with specializations in leadership and multicultural student development and retention from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
