Dr. Allen, a professor of early childhood education, has been an MSU Denver faculty member for more than two decades. Her research interests are related to addressing the disproportionate number of children of color expelled and suspended from early childhood programs and how culturally responsive teaching can more effectively address the problem. She previously served as director of the division of child care at the Colorado Department of Human Services.
“Dr. Allen’s energy, clarity of purpose and commitment to excellence position her to be a transformative leader — one who will elevate the school’s impact, expand its reach and ensure that MSU Denver continues to prepare educators who are responsive, resilient and ready to meet the needs of Colorado’s diverse communities,” said MSU Denver Provost Matt Makely.
A graduate of California State University, Long Beach, Dr. Allen holds a master’s degree in education from Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and a doctorate in equity and leadership in education from the University of Colorado Denver.
