Jason Curry to Lead Morehouse College’s Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel

Jason Curry has been named the second dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel at Morehouse College in Atlanta. He will begin his new role on June 15, succeeding the chapel’s founding dean, Lawrence Edward Carter Sr., who will retire this summer after 47 years of service to the HBCU.

Dr. Curry comes to Morehouse from another HBCU, Fisk University in Nashville, where he has led the Fisk Memorial Chapel for more than two decades. He has also served as senior assistant to the vice president for academic affairs, assistant professor of religion, and director of religious life. Earlier in his career, Dr. Curry held leadership roles in institutional research at Fisk and historically Black Kentucky State University.

Speaking to his new appointment, Dr. Curry said, “To return to Morehouse as dean of the Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel is the honor of a lifetime, and I am committed to continuing the Chapel’s enduring legacy at the intersection of scholarship, faith, justice, and leadership while shaping men dedicated to advancing Dr. King’s vision of the Beloved Community.”

Dr. Curry is an alumnus of Morehouse College, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in philosophy and religion. He holds a master of divinity degree from Harvard Divinity School and both an executive MBA and a Ph.D. in religion and personality from Vanderbilt University in Nashville.
