Job Title: Assistant or Associate Professor of Biblical Studies

Job Details and Essential Duties
BSK Theological Seminary (BSK) invites applications for a full-time faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor in the Area of Biblical Studies. We seek a teacher and scholar with training in Biblical Studies: Hebrew Bible, Old Testament, New Testament, Hermeneutics, and/or Early Christian Literature. The faculty position begins Fall 2027 and is tenure-track for Assistant rank and either tenure-track or tenured for Associate rank. The workplace type is hybrid, with different options for employees near our Lexington and Louisville, Kentucky offices and those in other geographic locations. All instruction is currently delivered in a synchronous, remote modality.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teaching in some of the required courses in Biblical Studies: Introduction to Old Testament, Introduction to New Testament, Hermeneutics.
  • Teaching self-designed elective courses in Biblical Studies and related fields.
  • Sharing teaching responsibilities with other full-time faculty members of one or more interdisciplinary courses such as Scripture and Ministerial Formation, Introduction to Theological Education.
  • Leading the Biblical Studies curricular area and contributing to the planning, design, and oversight of academic programs and curriculum.
  • Academic advising to students across all academic programs and possible research project advisement of Master of Arts in Ministry Studies students. 

Requirements
Required Qualifications:

  • PhD, ThD, D.Min. or other appropriate degree with significant research and training in a Biblical Studies field.
  • Demonstrated commitment to Christian theological education and formation.
  • Evidence of effective teaching grounded in theological reflection.
  • Ability to employ technology effectively in a synchronous and asynchronous online learning environment.
  • For Assistant Professor level, promise of scholarship that that contributes to the church, to student formation, and to the academy and professional societies. Demonstrable evidence of said scholarship for the Associate Level.
  • A commitment to serve the seminary, its students, and the churches and partners to which it relates.

Desired Qualifications:

  • MDiv.; Congregational leadership experience.

Salary
Salary range for the rank of Assistant is $55,000-58,000.  Salary range for the rank of Associate is $59,000-62,000.

About the Faculty
The members of the faculty of BSK constitute a collaborative community of faith and learning, and are crucial to the scholarly activities of teaching, learning, and research which are at the heart of the mission of the seminary. Responsibility for the planning, design, and oversight of the academic programs and curriculum of the seminary lies with the faculty.

Faculty members are expected to teach with effectiveness and theological reflection; to carry on scholarship that is effective in the discovery, integration, and application of knowledge and understanding; and to provide service to the seminary. Some current full-time faculty are residential to the Lexington and Louisville, KY areas; other full-time faculty are residential to other geographical locations.

About the School
BSK Theological Seminary is a freestanding theological school that is accredited by the Commission on Accrediting of the Association of Theological Schools (ATS). Its purpose is to prepare men and women sensing God’s leadership for life and ministry in faithful witness to Jesus Christ in the church and the world. The seminary offers a 75-hour Master of Divinity Degree with optional concentrations in Black Church Studies, Pastoral Care, and Chaplaincy and a 36-hour Master of Arts in Ministry Studies degree. Nine-hour graduate certificates are offered in areas of Black Church Studies, Exploring Ministry, Pastoral Care, and Rural Ministry.
