Ian Martin to Lead the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine

Ian Martin has been named the next dean and provost of the Southern Illinois University School of Medicine.

“The SIU School of Medicine plays a vital role in strengthening communities through education, research, patient care, and service, while helping address critical workforce and health needs throughout our state,” said SIU Carbondale Chancellor Austin A. Lane. “I am excited to see the School of Medicine continue to thrive under Dr. Martin’s leadership.”

Dr. Martin comes to his new role from the Medical College of Wisconsin, where he has been serving as system chair of the department of emergency medicine and interim associate dean for faculty affairs and leadership development. He also serves as the emergency physician-in-chief in the Froedtert and the Medical College of Wisconsin Health System.

Before the Medical College of Wisconsin, Dr. Martin served in several roles at West Virginia University. He was a professor and chair of the department of emergency medicine and the emergency physician-in-chief for the West Virginia University Health System.

A graduate of Duke University in Durham, North Carolina, Dr. Martin earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania-Hahnemann School of Medicine (now the Drexel University College of Medicine) and his MBA from the University of North Carolina Kenan-Flagler Business School. He trained in emergency medicine and general internal medicine at the University of Maryland Medical Center and R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore.
