Donald R. Andrews, longtime dean of the College of Business at Southern University in Louisiana, will step down from his deanship at the end of the academic year. He plans to remain on the HBCU’s faculty as the G. Leon Netterville/Kellogg Endowed Professor.
Dr. Andrews began his professional career with Southern University in 1974 as an instructor in the agricultural economics department. He became a tenure-track faculty member in 1980 and ultimately earned the rank of full professor of economics in 1994. After one-year of interim service, Dr. Andrews was officially named dean of the College of Business in 1998 and has served in that role ever since.
Under Dr. Andrews’ leadership, the business school has launched several academic programs and secured accreditation by AACSB-International, the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business. Additionally, Dr. Andrews’ influence extended beyond Southern University; he helped found the National HBCU Business Deans Roundtable and served three terms as the organization’s president.
An alumnus of Southern University, Dr. Andrews holds a master’s degree in food and resource economics from the University of Florida and a Ph.D. in agricultural economics from Texas A&M University.
