The department of English and foreign languages at Grambling State University in Louisiana has opened up two new facilities to help students with their communications skills. The Enhancement Writing Laboratory and the English Instructional Computer Classroom are available in Woodson Hall to students majoring in any discipline at Grambling.
Students who come to these facilities can receive help from a team of volunteer tutors on their writing projects. In addition, seminars are held at the laboratories to help students writing research papers and other compositions. To encourage usage of these facilities, some professors are offering students extra credit for participating in laboratory workshops.
Evelyn Wynn, interim dean of the College of Arts and Sciences at Grambling, states, “We must find ways to address students’ writing needs. We are trying to reach them when they first enter the university.”
