A Changing of the Guard for the University Honors Program at Tennessee State University

Sandra_HoltSandra Holt, director of the University Honors Program at Tennessee State University in Nashville, has announced her retirement. She has served as a faculty member and administrator at the university for more than 40 years. She has directed the University Honors Program for more than 20 years.

“Forty years and 11 months was the time it took to complete my mission at TSU,” said Dr. Holt. “My various works here were very rewarding, however, I believe my time right now is to be spent in ministry.”

Dr. Holt earned a bachelor’s degree in speech and drama at Tennessee State in 1971 and a master’s degree in 1972. She was then hired as an instructor in the communications department. She later earned a Ph.D. in rhetoric at Florida State University.

Jackson_coreenCoreen Dawkins Jackson was appointed to replace Dr. Holt as director of the University Honors Program. She is a tenured associate professor of mass communication at the university.

Dr. Jackson is a graduate of William Jewell College in Liberty, Missouri. She holds a master’s degree in broadcast journalism from Brooklyn College in New York and a Ph.D. in mass communication from Howard University in Washington, D.C.
