Princeton University in New Jersey, one of the nation’s most prestigious educational institutions, reports that it has admitted 1,208 students into its graduate programs for the coming academic year. The admitted students make up 10.8 percent of the total number of students who applied for admission to the university’s graduate programs. For the third consecutive year, international students make up more than one half of all applicants to Princeton’s graduate programs.
There were 1,264 American applicants from minority groups, but more than half of these were Asian Americans. There were 214 African American applicants to Princeton’s graduate programs. They made up 1.9 percent of all applicants and 4.1 percent of all applicants from the United States. Princeton did not report how many of the 214 African American applicants were accepted into its graduate programs.
It’s the letter of recommendation form. It’s hard enough to get letters of recommendation for graduate school, but then to have professors rank students as “Top 3%” or “Top 5%” in a given class is too much. It takes systemic racism and turns it up.
