Rudy Crew Appointed President of Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn

rudycrewThe board of trustees of the City University of New York has named Rudolph F. Crew as president of Medgar Evers College in Brooklyn, New York. The college enrolls about 7,000 undergraduate students in bachelor’s degree programs. Almost three quarters of the students are women and Blacks make up 84 percent of the student body.

Dr. Crew has been serving as the chief education officer for the state of Oregon since 2012. He is the former chancellor of the New York City Public Schools and the former superintendent of the public school system in Miami, Florida. He is the author of Only Connect: The Way to Save Our Schools (Sarah Crichton Books, 2007).

Dr. Crew is a native of Poughkeepsie, New York. He is a graduate of Babson College in Wellesley, Massachusetts. He holds master’s and doctoral degrees in education from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst.
