Wayne State University Law School to Take Part in New Civil Rights Clinic

Wayne_mediumThe American Civil Liberties Union of Michigan and the Wayne State University Law School are teaming up to establish the Civil Rights and Civil Liberties Clinic in Detroit. The law students will work alongside attorneys for the ACLU in cases brought before state and federal courts. Law students must apply to become part of the program. Those accepted will be asked to work at least 12 hours a week at the Detroit office of the ACLU. Students will also take part in a classroom seminar that conducts a semester-long simulation of a civil rights case that will help them develop professional skills to help them in their legal careers.

Jocelyn Benson, dean of the Wayne State University Law School, stated, “We are excited to partner with the ACLU of Michigan to continue Wayne Law’s emphasis on training students to be leaders in ensuring access to justice.”
