Daniel Hastings to Lead the Singapore-MIT Alliance

hastingsDaniel Hastings was named director of the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research and Technology (SMART). He will serve a three-year term, beginning on January 1, 2014. Dr. Hastings is the Cecil and Ida Green Education Professor of Aeronautics and Astronautics and Engineering Systems. For the past seven years he has served as dean of undergraduate education at MIT.

Dr. Hastings joined the faculty at MIT in 1985 and was promoted to full professor in 1993. From 1997 to 1999, he served as the chief scientist for the U.S. Air Force.

Dr. Hastings is a graduate of Oxford University in England. He holds a master’s degree and a Ph.D. from MIT.

Dr. Cook was a longtime faculty member and administrator at Lincoln University of Missouri. A full professor of biology, he held several leadership roles including vice president for academic affairs.
