George E. Bonney, professor of community health and family medicine at Howard University, died late last month at the MedStar Montgomery Medical Center in Olney, Maryland, after suffering a heart attack. He was 65 years old.
Dr. Bonney also served as director of the Statistical Genetics and Bioinformatics Unit at the National Human Genome Center. He first joined the faculty at Howard University in 1987 after serving as an associate professor of biometry and genetics at the Louisiana State University Medical Center in New Orleans. After spending the 1991-1998 period at the Fox Chase Cancer Center in Philadelphia, Dr. Bonney returned to Howard University in 1998.
A native of Ghana, Dr. Bonney held bachelor’s and master’s degrees from the University of Ghana. He earned a Ph.D. in biostatistics and genetics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
