Delaware State University, the historically Black educational institution in Dover, has entered into an agreement with Horizon Helicopter Inc. to provide flight training for students in the university’s aviation program. In the past, students in the university’s bachelor’s degree program in aviation could concentrate only in fixed-wing aircraft with degree programs in professional piloting or aviation management. The university’s flight school maintains a fleet of 10 fixed-wing aircraft.
Stephen Speed, director of the aviation program at Delaware State University, noted, “This option broadens our ability to train future aviation professionals. It is another way that Delaware State University can accommodate the expected future growth of the aerospace industry.”
Students opting for the helicopter concentrate will train at the Horizon Helicopter facility in Newark, Delaware.
