Alcorn State University, the historically Black educational institution in Mississippi, has announced changes in its administrative structure to reduce costs and to focus more on enrollment management. Under the new plan, there will be a new Division of Academic and Student Affairs that merges instruction and student support services. The former Student Affairs division has been eliminated.
No staff members lost their jobs as part of the realignment but some vacant positions were eliminated in the restructuring. And five posts in the Office of the President were reassigned to other administrative positions.
Senior Vice President and chief operating officer at Alcorn State Betty Roberts, stated, “By adopting budget performance measures for each administrative process as well as for the shared vision of the university, we will bring focus and discipline to our mission.”
“The changes create greater efficiencies and bring a greater focus on enrollment management, ensuring students better progress through the higher education process: recruiting, admissions, retention, graduation, and career placement,” added executive vice president and provost Samuel L. White.
