Claflin University, the historically Black educational institution in Orangeburg, South Carolina, has broken ground on a new student housing complex. A new 64,000-square-foot residence hall will include two, three-story wings. One wing will be for men and the other for women. Students will be housed in two- and four-bedroom suites. Each wing will have its own elevator, laundry facilities, and computer laboratory.
Shared common areas between the two wings will include meeting rooms and a fitness center. The new complex will cost about $12 million and is expected to be completed for the beginning of the 2014-15 academic year.
