Nontombi Naomi Tutu Wins Social Justice Award

Naomi-TutuNontombi Naomi Tutu, a second-year student in the master of divinity program at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, recently received the Otis Social Justice Award from Wheaton College in Norton, Massachusetts. The award was established in 1959 by Henry Witte Otis, who had two daughters who graduated from Wheaton College. Past winners of the Otis Social Justice Award include Eleanor Roosevelt and C. Everett Koop.

Tutu is the daughter of Archbishop Desmond Tutu of South Africa, who is a past winner of the Noble Peace Prize. She has worked as a development specialist in West Africa and as a program coordinator for the Race Relations Institute at Fisk University, the historically Black educational institution in Nashville.
