The office of Alabama Governor Robert Bentley issued a report that pointed to fraud and financial waste at Alabama State University in Montgomery. The governor’s office is turning over the evidence that it has uncovered to prosecutors to see if criminal charges should be filed. Among the allegations are that board members gave contracts to family and friends.
After receiving the report, Governor Bentley sent a letter to the board of trustees asking them to suspend the search for a new university president. The board refused to comply with this request.
William H. Harris issued a statement which said, “Our university in under attack. The very future of ASU as we know it, and wish it to be, is at stake.”
Here is a video showing President Harris addressing the situation.
