Edward Cornwell III Elected Secretary of the American College of Surgeons

CORNWELL1Edward E. Cornwell III, professor and chair of the department of surgery at the Howard University College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., was elected secretary of the American College of Surgeons. Founded in 1913, the American College of Surgeons is dedicated to promoting the ethical and competent practice of surgery and to promote high quality of care for surgical patients.

Dr. Cornwell was born in what is now Howard University Hospital. His father was also a surgeon and a professor at Howard’s medical school. The younger Cornwell earned his medical degree at Howard where he was the 1982 class president. Before joining the faculty at Howard in 2008, Dr. Cornwell was professor of surgery and chief of trauma at The Johns Hopkins University Hospital.
