Honors for Two African American Scholars

David Jackson smDavid H. Jackson, professor and chair of the department of history at Florida A&M University in Tallahassee, received the 2013 Equity Award from the American Historical Association. The award is presented to individuals who have achieved excellence in recruiting and retaining underrepresented racial and ethnic groups in the historical profession.

Professor Jackson earned bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Florida A&M University. He holds a Ph.D. in history from the University of Memphis in Tennessee. He is the author of  Booker T. Washington and the Struggle Against White Supremacy: The Southern Educational Tours, 1908-1912 (Palgrave Macmillan, 2009).

gloverblackwell220Angela Glover Blackwell was named the inaugural Fred and Rita Richman Distinguished Fellow in Public Life at Brandeis University in Washington, D.C. She will spend two days on campus in late March to meet with students and faculty and discuss issues of social justice. The honor comes with a $25,000 award.

Blackwell is a graduate of Howard University and the law school at the University of California at Berkeley. She is the founder and CEO of PolicyLink, a national research and action institute advancing economic and social equity.
