Phoebe A. Haddon was selected as the next chancellor of the Camden campus of Rutgers University in New Jersey. The campus, just of east of Philadelphia, enrolls about 4,700 undergraduate students and 1,600 graduate students. African Americans make up about 17 percent of the undergraduate student body. Dr. Haddon will become chancellor on July 1.
Since 2009 Dr. Haddon has been dean of the Carey School of Law at the University of Maryland. She is the first African American to serve as dean. Before becoming dean in 2009, Haddon served on the faculty at the Beasley School of Law at Temple University in Philadelphia. The journal National Jurist has named her one of the “25 Most Influential People in Legal Education.”
Dean Haddon is a graduate of Smith College in Northampton, Massachusetts, and the Duquesne University School of Law in Pittsburgh. She also holds a master’s degree in law from Yale Law School.
Congratulations Professor Haddon. I remember you from my Temple law days. Wishing you the best in your new position.
