Wellesley College Philosopher and Poet Stepping Down After 41 Years

Ifeanyi Menkiti is retiring from his position as professor of philosophy at Wellesley College in Massachusetts. He has served on the Wellesley College faculty for 41 years.

Professor Menkiti is a native of Onitsha, Nigeria. He is a graduate of Pomona College in Claremont, California. Dr. Menkiti holds master’s degrees from Columbia University and New York University and a Ph.D. from Harvard University. At Harvard, he studied with philosopher John Rawls, who supervised his doctoral dissertation.

Dr. Menkiti joined the Wellesley College faculty in 1973. He is the author of four collections of poetry, including his latest work Before a Common Soil (Ilora Press, 2007).
