Dr. Joan J. Boyd, professor emerita in the department of health professions at Youngstown State University in Ohio, and her husband Willard have established a scholarship fund at the university for underrepresented minority students interested in pursuing a career in health, medicine, or clinical laboratory science.
Applicants for the scholarship must be from northeastern Ohio or western Pennsylvania and be enrolled full-time at the university and have a grade point average of at least 2.5. Preference will be given to graduates of the Youngstown Early College High School program.
Dr. Boyd joined the faculty at Youngstown State in 1977 and was granted emerita status earlier this year. She earned a bachelor’s degree in medical technology at Youngstown State. She went on to receive a master’s degree in health care from Central Michigan University and a Ph.D. from the Union Institute and University in Cincinnati.
