Historically Black Grambling State University in Louisiana has received approval to proceed with renovations to a 33,000-square-foot building used for intramural recreation and a natatorium that has sat idle with an empty swimming pool and broken windows, creating an eyesore on the university campus. The $7 million cost of the renovations is being financed through student fees.
Last fall, members of the football team at Grambling State University boycotted practice and refused to travel to a game at Jackson State University in Mississippi to provost the conditions of the team’s locker rooms and training facilities.
Frank G. Pogue, outgoing president of Grambling State University, stated, “I found a lot of good things at Grambling when I first got here in 2009 but the natatorium was not one of them. The place has been an eyesore for years, and students complained about it all the time, and with good reason.”
